Joanne Kluba is a book artist whose work is informed by her background in printmaking, painting, photography and calligraphy. She holds a BFA in Printmaking and an MA in Business from Webster University in St. Louis. She studied traditional bookbinding with conservator Richard Baker in St. Louis, and with guilds and universities throughout the country. She has taught at Washington University, Webster University, Craft Alliance, and in her studio. She has led workshops across the country. Her works have been exhibited in the U.S. and Europe. Joanne’s work has been published in 500 Books, I and II (Lark), and in “Bound and Lettered.” Her work can be found in university and private collections.
In 2001, Joanne founded Paper Birds, a small custom bindery, specializing in hand bookbinding, book repairs, small edition binding, handmade boxes, portfolios and calligraphy. Her clients include universities, corporations and individual collectors.
